2018-2019<\/p>\n

11,565 Kilometres projec<\/em>t was containing nearly one half-hour long essay film and one photography book of historical sites, portraits, and cultural relics, even a three-dimensional sculpture and aims to explore some issues related to the circulation of artifacts, the complexity of colonial history, and the problems of archaeological museum collection systems.<\/p>\n

The name of this project 11,565 Kilometers<\/em>, is the physical distance of the path of an artifact from Shandong province (China) to the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology (USA). In May 2018, the artist began to research this Chinese artifact at the Penn Museum: A Coffin Fragment (object#: 40-35-4) located in the Asian Art Pavilion. In June 2018 and January 2019, the artist went twice to China for field investigations. With the help of some archaeologists and historians, He found that the artifact had a historical connection to some German colonizers and a Japanese artifact dealer. Then, the artist expanded the research on the path of the coffin fragment including artifact unearthing, sales, shipping and acquisitions in its world. During the investigation, a visual archive for Object#:40-35-4 was built, which roughly rebuilds the artifacts journey from China to the Penn Museum.<\/p>\n
