The Ashes of canoes(2023-)

The Ashes of canoes

Through observations of a Neolithic human activity site (Kuahuqiao Site) in Hangzhou (China), the project probes clues that the Kuahuqiao canoes were stored and interpreted by the museum on its original site.

Surrounded by the real time monitoring systems and all-weather temperature control equipment, the dust of history floats, refracts, and decays. Following the power of modern museums’ technical facilities, the project questions the modern museum’s manipulation and construction of the artifacts’ “original context”, and attempts to touch the muddy strata where ancient workplaces, museum systems, and technological power overlapped. It captures lost signals, explores fuzzy boundaries and immerses into flowing historical imagination.

The project is currently in its first chapter “Condensation”.
